What does this mean for our community?

Railways

  • Closest station is Dorridge, over 2 miles away.

  • Vast investment needed to improve tracks, rolling stock, signalling, platforms, passenger facilities and provide step-free access at alternative station (Lapworth)

  • Access to station is via country lanes. No regular bus services currently

  • Car parking already limited

Services

  • Minimum threshold size for a new settlement is 6,000 dwellings.

  • 6,000 new dwellings would require:
    - 1 new secondary school
    - 3-4 new primary schools
    - health care provision (GP surgery/dentist)
    - employment opportunities

Proposed number of dwellings is BELOW 6,000.  What does this mean for current infrastructure and services?  What does this mean for Hockley Heath School?  Do YOU think we should try and absorb an increase in population without making appropriate provision?

Loss of Green Belt & Farmland

  • The entire area is Green Belt land.

  • Other sites which are NOT in the Green Belt have been put forward.

Which do YOU think we should be prioritising?

  • Permanent loss of XX acres of productive farmland.

Do YOU think we should be more dependent on imported food?

Harm to Heritage Areas

  • Disruption to or destruction of Canal Conservation Areas

  • Impact on listed buildings

Do YOU think we should be harming or destroying our historically important heritage?

Roads

  • 3,300 more private cars; potential for a significant increase in commercial/industrial traffic

  • A3400 already at capacity in rush hour

  • M40 J16 access was deliberately limited to prevent A3400 being used as cut through

  • Junction improvements needed for:
    - B4439 Old Warwick Road / A3400

  • New bridge(s) needed over the canals.

  • Years of roadworks to endure

  • Increased traffic on smaller roads

  • The Government would have to help fund the bigger projects

Are the required improvements deliverable and affordable?

Harm to Habitats

  • Permanent loss of vital habitat for wildlife such as otters and skylarks

  • Disruption to important wildlife corridors, notably the canal and railway

  • Distrubance from noise and light pollution

  • Interference from a vastly increased number of humans and pets

What do YOU think our legacy for our children and grandchildren should be?
