New Settlement C1

A proposed new settlement, collectively known as 'C1' has been identified to the South of Kingswood and across towards Rowington Green.

This area has capacity for 4,960 dwellings, an increase in population of 11,900.

That's 6 times the current population of Lapworth Parish as a whole!

What does this mean for our community?

Railways

  • Service frequency from Lapworth inadequate at present and limited, if any, capacity to improve.

  • Vast investment needed to improve tracks, rolling stock, signalling, platforms, passenger facilities and provide step-free access.

  • Access to station is via country lanes. No regular bus services currently.

  • Car park too small and no room to expand.

Can Lapworth Station really be improved to cope with increased passenger numbers?

Services

  • Minimum threshold size for a new settlement is 6,000 dwellings.

  • 6,000 new dwellings would require:
    - 1 new secondary school
    - 3-4 new primary schools
    - health care provision (GP surgery/dentist)
    - employment opportunities

Proposed number of dwellings is BELOW 6,000.  What does this mean for our precious Lapworth Surgery (already flagged red for GP to patient ratio)?  What does this mean for Lapworth School and Preschool?  Do YOU think we should try and absorb an increase in population without making appropriate provision?

Loss of Green Belt & Farmland

  • The entire area is Green Belt land.

  • Other sites which are NOT in the Green Belt have been put forward.

Which do YOU think we should be prioritising?

  • Permanent loss of XX acres of productive farmland.

Do YOU think we should be more dependent on imported food?

Harm to Heritage Areas

  • Disruption to or destruction of Canal Conservation Areas
  • Impact on or destruction of Ancient Woodland (Rowington Coppice)
  • Impact on listed buildings, such as Kingswood Manor House.

Do YOU think we should be harming or destroying our historically important heritage?

Roads

  • 6,000 more private cars

  • Junction improvements needed for:
    - B4439 Old Warwick Road / A3400
    - B4439 / Wharf Lane
    - B4439 / Mill Lane
    - Roads further afield

  • New bridge(s) needed over the canals.

  • Years of roadworks to endure.

  • Increased traffic on smaller roads.

  • The Government would have to help fund the bigger projects.

Are the required improvements deliverable and affordable?

Harm to Habitats

  • Permanent loss of vital habitat for wildlife such as otters and skylarks.

  • Disruption to important wildlife corridors, notably the canal and railway.

  • Distrubance from noise and light pollution.

  • Interference from a vastly increased number of humans and pets.

What do YOU think our legacy for our children and grandchildren should be?
